What if babies would be just a computer program?
Have you ever wondered why babies do certain things or act certain ways? There is no explanation for baby behavior in many situations. Things just happen the way they happen. Baby cries, baby throws up, baby poops 2 minutes after it filled the last diaper and so. This can be extremely frustrating for the parents. Nothing stresses you out more than a crying baby that has been fed and that has a clean diaper and is (proven) not sick. It just cries and cries and cries. No explanation is available. Is the baby colicky or what is going on? Especially for first time parents these kind of situations are hard to work through.
So, sometimes I come up with these really crazy thoughts about situations. I don't know if it is a certain way to deal with problems and to forget the pain associated with it or if it is just keep my sanity. Our little baby boy was giving us a hard time the other day and while I was changing the diaper it just came to my mind - this baby must be like a computer program. Ever played a computer game where you had to reach a certain score to gain extra points or extra health?
1) Take a crying baby for example:
"Congratulations. You have cried for 4 consecutive hours. You gain 10,000 extra points which will extend your crying period to 5 hours automatically."
2) Diaper Change. You are changing the baby's diaper. The software modus changes to diaper change.
"Dad is changing the diaper. Option 1: just be quiet and let it happen. Option 2: pee on daddy as soon as the diaper has been opened and the new one is not attached yet. Option 2a: poop during the diaper change. Click here for "gas only" to scare daddy.
"Congratulations. You caught daddy off guard and hit him hard. 5,000 bonus points. How do you want to use them? Option 1: fill the diaper again the moment you are dressed again. Option 2: save bonus points for later.
3) Feeding situation
"You have the following options. Please choose carefully. Option 1: Just drink as much as you can and go back to sleep. Option 2: Give Mom a hard time and pretend you want more and more and more. Then spit up. Option 3: Refuse to burp and let Mom and Dad work really hard to burb. Smile briefly when you decide to burb to keep their good will. Click here for "throw up available with burb"
Well, maybe you get the idea of what I meant when saying "What if a baby is a computer program?". Just think through all these situations you experience with your baby and translate them into something more fun. Having and raising a baby is hard work. You'll need to keep your sanity. Humor can help a lot to accomplish this goal.
