It is this time of the year again. I am done with my Christmas shopping for weeks, but I failed to ship early and so a few days ago I was facing 50 people ahead of me at the post office. I finally made it and could make a big check mark on my list of items I had to take care of. But I also know from talking to friends and relatives – not everyone is fully done with their Christmas shopping. Some are struggling in general with finding the right presents and ideas for presents. You probably have experiences this for yourself sometimes it is just very hard to find the right present for friends or relatives – especially those we do not have close contact with. Here is a cool suggestion I’d like to make:
Give the gift of a Netflix Subscription.
Netflix is the movie rental company where one can watch movies over the Internet or by receiving movie DVDs via the US Postal Service. You can get the latest movies via DVD, while some are even available online. At this point Netflix has over 21,000 titles ready for streaming over the Internet already.
I actually signed up with Netflix myself about 11 months ago and I just love it. As an example about 2 weeks ago I had surgery on my right foot after a cracked bone not healing well. I was immobilized for several days and just moved back and forth between the couch, the kitchen, and my bedroom. I started watching 24 (TV series with Kiefer Sutherland). I barely watch public TV as I do not like all the commercials and so this was (is) a great for me to enjoy this fantastic series starting with season #1. I had never seen it before, but had heard great reviews about it. I have to say – I am hooked.
So, for me having a Netflix subscription is an awesome way to watch movies and TV series. Another great reason for us to subscribe to Netflix is to get access to all the different kids shows and series that are. Netflix actually has lots of older stuff, too. Some older cartoon Superman or Batman TV series that I would otherwise never be able to find – they are on Netflix as an example.
I am streaming Netflix content to my TV even though the TV itself is not Internet ready. I am using my Xbox 360 to do so, but I know that a Wii Console or a Sony Playstation can do this as well. And of course any Internet enabled Flat screen TV will allow you to stream movies from Netflix.
So, Netflix is actually dirt cheap and for less that $8.00 a month you get full access to their online library of movies and TV series (or less than $10.00 a month with unlimited physical DVD shipping). I this is the perfect present for pretty much anyone who likes movies or TV shows. Netflix also has lots of Fitness DVDs and this summer I started to learn Pilates by getting an instructional Pilates DVD through Netflix – risk free since I did not have to buy it (many fitness DVD programs that you buy are weak and renting them is a good way to test drive). You can give the gift of Netflix in small increments so that even a 1 month subscription can be handed to a loved one as a present.
