The Best Sex Positions to Become Pregnant

Let’s get pregnant. But before you can report success you need to make love. You need to have sex with your partner and to a certain degree it does matter what position you use during sex to increase your chances of getting pregnant. So, does the sexual position really matter when it comes to conception? Yes, it does.

The basics: In order for conception to occur, the sperm must be deposited as close as possible to the woman’s cervix (sorry if this sounds very technical – it is, but it’s the fact of what needs to happen). So, how do we get this mission accomplished? We do this by making love, by having sexual intercourse. For some people sex is about trying different positions and by doing it in different locations and often these 2 items get combined. However, to reach the goal of getting pregnant we need to eliminate some positions “from the menu” to increase chances to become pregnant.

Gravity matters

It’s actually quite true — getting pregnant might involve gravity. In a perfect world strong and healthy sperm can make its way to the cervix against all odds. But life as we know it always throws some sort of a curveball our way and so it is important to give those little guys some help by using gravity to our advantage. What exactly does this mean? Choose a position for intercourse that makes common sense.  Anything exotic where the sperm has to work its way uphill inside the female body should be avoided.

Here is a list of some sexual positions that are known to be not preferred when it comes to getting pregnant:

• Sitting
• Standing
• Woman on top (cowgirl)
• Bending over
• T-Square
• Oral (obvious, but you would be surprised …)
• Anal (again very obvious, but you would be surprised …)

While some of these positions do not make it impossible to conceive, they do not support the flow of sperm into the uterus and “catching up with the egg”. And please – do not consider these positions as some sort of birth control – they are not!

The list above eliminates several positions from our list of sexual positions to become pregnant. Almost everything else is good to go for. 2 of the most popular positions to conceive are the good old missionary position and (man) penetrating the woman from behind (doggy-style).

What to do after ejaculation?

Very simple reply: Lie down! It never hurts to use gravity to “push” the sperm into the right direction. There is no need to stand on your head, but lying down for about 20 or 30 minutes can definitely be very helpful.

I apologize if this article takes away a little bit of the magic that love making should have. Getting pregnant is not as easy as you might think. You might already be trying for a while and are working your way through the list of possible culprits. Using a position that promotes pregnancy is definitely a no-brainer and does not cost anything. Before you really get concerned about infertility and possible solutions make sure you are using a sex position that helps to become pregnant.

You also need to time things right. Keep in mind that if you are waiting until ovulation before having sex that you are giving yourself a disadvantage. Good, strong sperm can survive longer than the egg. It is a good idea to start having sex a day or two before your expected ovulation. That way you will increase your chances of becoming pregnant dramatically. And last but not least I want to point that making a baby should be fun. If having sex becomes a mechanical act with reduced emotions you will never get pregnant. Keep the fun involved or step back a bit and bring back the magic when making love.
