Pregnancy - week by week: Week 22 - 23
Week 22
If your baby is following the average path he/she will probably be close to a pound in weight now. The overall body developed has progressed very far already. The eyelids and eyebrows are now formed, and the brain begins to grow very fast now. If you are having a baby boy, his testes have begun their descent from the pelvis to the scrotum.
Your uterus is now about one inch above your navel. Your weight gain is most likely very steady as the baby begins to fill your womb now. The extra weight may begin to take its toll on your back. Make sure you let Daddy help you doing work around the house if he has not done so yet. Wearing low heeled shoes is your best bet to reduce back pain. High heeled shoes as well as flat shoes can strain your back. Avoid sitting or standing for long periods of time. When you sit, use a footstool to raise your knees higher than your hips.
Week 23
Your baby weighs over one (1) pound now! His or her body is becoming much more proportioned day by day, and the bones of the middle ear begin to harden.
If born now, your baby has already a small chance for survival. Of course the goal is not to have this situation to experience.
Your baby still has room to move around in your womb. So you're probably still feeling kicks, jabs, flips and flops every once in a while. You may even see your abdomen move. Your uterus is now about 1 to 1 and 1/2 inch above your belly button. Strong mood swings are normal at this point during pregnancy. Treat yourself good when mood swings hit you.
