The pregnancy period is a transitory stage in which the body and mind of the to-be mother undergoes a number of changes and alterations. A healthy pregnancy is the first and foremost step in the development of a child’s health. There can be many complications if one doesn’t take good care of oneself during this critical period. The lady should lead an over cautious life during these 38-40 weeks of fertilization. The mother and the child both require a good amount of nutrition and the mother should adapt to a healthy living style for the child’s benefit.

 

 

Signs of pregnancy

 

 

There are a number of biological and psychological changes that happen during the gestation period. Signs of pregnancy become conspicuous around the fourth week.

 

 

  • The first and foremost mark is the Amenorrhea that is the interruption in the menstrual cycle. Due to the change in the hormone (estrogen to progesterone) the periodic flow stops.

     

 

  • Unusual weight gain is the most primary indication of pregnancy.  Swelling and tenderness near the abdomen and breasts are one of the most major symptoms.

     

 

  • Implantation bleeding during the preliminary stages is another important sign of pregnancy. During this time premenstrual spotting is observed and disturbed pattern of periods is apparent.

     

 

  • Tiredness, nausea and mood swings are also on a high at the initial level. Difficulty while sleeping and insomnia are evident throughout the gestation period.

     

 

  • Medical problems like frequent urination, constipation and extreme fatigue form a major part of the symptoms.

     

 

  • The appetite changes and even the nutritional requirements undergo a major change. The body requires a lot of healthy eating and appropriate amount of exercise. Sweating and tiredness generally accompany these changes but can be cured by practicing meditation and seeking professional advice.

     

 

  • An outstanding change in the sense of taste and smell is seen.

     

 

  • Home pregnancy tests are a very good way to detect pregnancy. The materials required for these tests are easily available in any public drugstore.

     

 

  • Morning sickness is high up. Mood swings and uncomfortable situations due to nausea and giddy sensation also take a toll on the body and mind of the expecting women.

     

 

  • Heartburn and indigestion are an outcome of the increased body weight and even the growth of the abdominal cavity.

     

 

  • Even the pelvic area enlarges towards the last weeks due to the hormonal changes occurring inside the body.

     

 

  • Easiest way is to notice the bodily changes like stretch marks, skin changes, spider veins and tenderness.

Prenatal and postnatal care is of utmost importance for a healthy mother and baby. Complications and other symptoms are no doubt difficult to adjust to but one’s got to make extra effort for that one glorious moment.
