Pregnancy after a Miscarriage - What to be aware of?

Miscarriage and its aftermath

Miscarriage is one of the most common complications that occur during the gestation period. It is kind of a ‘natural abortion’ as without the help of any external agency, the new life ends due to some medical problems. Miscarriages can be caused due to a number of problems like genetic defects, infections, hormonal changes, weak immunity and even abnormality in the uterus structure. Emotionally, physiologically and psychologically a lady undergoes a lot of turbulence and aggression. The different types of miscarriages are inevitable miscarriage, threatened, incomplete and complete miscarriage. This is the stage generally arises in between the 20th and the 22nd week when without any known reason the sustenance of the foetus becomes impossible.

Pregnancy after a Miscarriage

There is an age old myth that after a miscarriage, it becomes very difficult to conceive.  But this is utterly wrong and one stands more than 90% chance of becoming pregnant after the spontaneous abortion. One needs to have just a little amount of patience and after a span of four to six weeks when the bleeding stops, one can again conceive. Though a longer period of a few months is advised as in this period the body can replenish and become completely healthy to support a pregnancy. Miscarriage in no way marks the end of fertility and therefore one can surely plan a healthy pregnancy after a miscarriage.

What to be aware of?

After a single miscarriage, one stands 85-90% chance of conceiving again. After two or multiple miscarriages the probability is 70-80%. Hence if one waits for the prescribed amount of time, one can again experience a fulfilling pregnancy. One should be aware of symptoms like unusual spotting or vaginal bleeding, fatigue, infections and even other minor problems that signify a high risk of miscarriage. One should be aware of the changes that take place within the body and should take utmost care and always seek professional advice on serious issues.

Emotional imbalance and psychological support

The mother goes through an intense grieving phase after a miscarriage. Emotional instability is very high and hence some self-control methods like meditation and easy exercises should be adopted. One should stay positive and try relieving the pain by talking it out with close people or by engaging oneself in some kind of recreational activity. The woman suffers extensively as the grief of losing a part of your own self is not compensable.

One should try and accept the loss and look forward with an optimistic view. Try not to hold back your views and pain as this simply aggravates sadness and stress. Try and divert your attention away from the incident and replant your energy in some constructive work and restart your life with enthusiasm and zest. The family should support and keep a vigil on the actions and reactions of the victim. The woman should try and herself recoup out of the sad and distressing situation. Grief will only lead to depression and serious disorders. Seeking medical health and some professional counseling can help the victim to a very great extent. Hence one should know that isn’t the end of life but another extra chance to bring in life again.
