Seven Ways To A Perfect Child Birthday Party

There’s probably no better reason to celebrate than the birthday of a child. As boys or girls alike reach each new milestone, parents can delight in the importance of the occasion as well as the child’s health and well-being.

Hosting a birthday party for child guests and their parents isn’t difficult, but it’s something that requires a little preparation and a fair amount of structure. Parents should plan their celebration well in advance and take steps to stage it too, leaving as little as possible to the last minute.

Send out invitations early.

Getting your invitations into your guests’ hands early lets them organize their schedule so that they’re able to attend. Modern families are busy, and you don’t want your little guest of honor to feel slighted because weekend or afternoon plans couldn’t synch up.

Buy the decorations on sale, but buy them early, too.

Getting the decorations early (earlier than the night before, anyway) allows you the freedom to run out for replacements or reinforcements. Don’t forget to buy other supplies, too, like wrapping paper and invisible tape.

Serve up some entertainment at the party.

As your guests arrive, you can keep the children occupied with a board game or crafts project until its time for the main event of the ice cream and cake. This will get them more in the celebratory spirit than just watching a DVD or playing video games.

Serve a healthy meal that kids will like too.

Birthday parties are notorious for junk food and candy, but health conscious parents will relax when they see you’ve thought of that in advance. Serve the kids a birthday meal of healthy alternatives, and don’t serve drinks with sugar or caffeine.

Save the biggest presents for last.

Guests like to feel that their gifts are important, so save your own “big” family present to the guest of honor until last. This will keep guests from feeling that your gift overshadowed theirs.

Treat the parents to coffee and snacks, too.
Parents will probably welcome a fresh pot of coffee and some light snacks while their kids enjoy themselves. Even snacks as simple as ladyfingers or cookies make a welcome repast.

End the party on time.

Your guests and their parents will have other activities, so it’s best not to overstay your welcome. End the party on time, and let the parents know it’s run its course, so they can help you get everyone moving.
