I realize that I have not written down much about life with the baby in a while. My apologies. I can tell you - time is becoming very limited with a baby around. In the next few weeks I will fill you in on (almost) everything that happened since my last posting in June.

We have been very busy and I did not find a lot of time to update our baby diary / baby blog here. Here is the next update. Logan had his first ear infection. Read on to find out how we made it through it.

Simone had applied at her old company she used to work for as they had a few openings for part-time work. This Monday she interviewed for a job and received the job offer at the end of the interview. This is awesome news for us.

Life away from the baby

If you are a keeping track of how life with a baby is for my wife and me you know that my went to Germany with Logan for 3 weeks. When they came back from Germany a little more than a week ago it was a reunion short of time. Just 5 days later I had to leave for a business trip. I spent the last 5 days in Irvine, California. I like California and I enjoyed the trip but I really started missing my wife and my little son.

A Day from Hell

Logan was a very cranky baby yesterday and did not give us a break at all. He also did not eat and that was a very big concern.

Logan and Simone are now gone for 1.5 weeks and I have another 1.5 weeks without them to go. In one way it is nice having a little more time for yourself, but then it feels very strange suddenly being all alone. The house feels empty.

Simone and Logan went to Germany to visit our relatives. Especially a visit at Simone's grandma is planned. Her grandma is 91 years old and this is the first grand-grand child for her. You do not want to risk the moment by waiting too long for visiting a 91 year old lady. We were quite concerned about the flight with Logan.

Doctor's visit - Time for vaccinations

It was time for Logan's second round of vaccinations. Simone and I met at the doctor's office shortly before 9.00 AM as I had been working already for a few hours in the office that morning. Logan was sleeping in his car seat - not knowing what was supposed to come down to him (poor baby).

Feeding problems

Lately Logan decided to make it more difficult for us to feed him. First of all we're kind of stuck at around 80 ml - 100 ml of breast milk per feeding. And then he decided to refuse the bottle / nipple by moving his head from the left to the right and vice versa whenever we try to feed him.

Those unforgettable moments

Having a baby bears many unforgettable moments. We had one of those the other day. While playing with Logan and doing tummy time I did lift him up and did set him down on my belly and started smiling at him. He looked around with his head still a little shaky but apparently he enjoyed sitting high up on Daddy. He started giggling like crazy and was laughing and smiling.

Another one of these short nights. Baby Logan woke up at around 4.00 AM and decided to stay awake. Nothing really helped as he made some signs of being hungry again we did the necessary. As I got to walk the dog in the morning anyway I just started a little earlier.

Double that!

Our 2 month pediatrician appointment with Logan happened in the 7th week of his life due to scheduling conflicts. My wife called me right from the appointment. Logan had reached 8 lbs of weight already. Wow.

Life Saver (...kind of...)

Sleep is a very valuable good during times when a new baby has arrived in your house. You can usually expect 2-5 months of very minimum sleep at least. In some case this continues to go on for an even longer period. From my own experience I know that the lack of sleep really can stress you out and puts many other things on hold.

I looked at the alarm clock. 4.47 AM - I tried to remember if Logan had woken us up earlier but nothing came to my mind. We must have had slept from around 11.45 PM until now and the baby was letting this happen. We have not had that much sleep since April 9th when he was born.

Short nights, long days

Having a baby is stressful. The new addition to your family does not care about established rules. The baby does not care that you have not slept in 3 days. The baby sets new rules.

4 weeks

Logan is now 4 weeks old. The last 4 weeks have been very intense. The lack of sleep has left us being much more irritated as usual. 'The fuse' is a little shorter as usual and we have to help each other to step away every once in a while and get a breather.

The hospital manager called us. She had worked with the Neonatal specialist and the health insurance to take care of the insurance denying approval for the claim. Apparently the whole issue went high up within the health insurance organization before it got worked out.

Day 16 - Scary moments

Logan kept us awake over night and we got only 2-3 hours of sleep total. We tried all the known (to us) tricks to get him to sleep but with only limited success. This morning his 9.00 AM feeding worked out well and he drank 1.5 oz.of breast milk from the bottle.
